Vision for Living

Mid-State Home Health Agency offers a program called Vision for Living; help at home for the visually impaired.Everyone with impaired vision, their families and friends are urged to learn more about the benefits of vision rehabilitation.Vision loss doesn't have to mean loss of independence or quality of life.If you have low vision, or know someone who does, ask your doctor about Vision for Living.
Three in every ten people will develop low vision, a condition that most people consider to be a part of getting older. While this condition affects mainly older persons, it is not a normal change of old age.Low vision usually develops as a result of an eye disease such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal fibroplasias, retinal detachment, cataracts or glaucoma.Low vision can be sudden or subtle, and it may affect many aspects of your life including cooking, walking, reading and taking medications. There are many signs that can signal vision loss. For example, one may bump into furniture, fall frequently, experience difficulty using kitchen appliances and have trouble recognizing family members or friends.Lights may seem dimmer and matching your clothes may have become difficult.
While vision that is lost cannot be stored, many people can make the most of the vision you have by getting assistance from those in your community who can address your needs.Professionals use specialized training and devices to modify the home environment while enlisting support and involvement of community resources to provide you with the best combination of assistance available. The most important aspect of this program is that you are taught in the privacy of your home by the Vision for Living staff.
This program is covered by Medicare at no cost to the patient when qualified. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with vision loss or you have any other questions, call Mid-State Home Health at 443-9739 to see if Vision for Living is right for you.
