Hair Loss - Normal or Breakage?
HAIR LOSS: NORMAL OR BREAKAGE? By Danette Cruz
While it is perfectly normal to lose up to 100 strands of hair per day, it is still unsettling to see clumps of your hair in the drain of your tub or shower. The way to tell normal hair shedding is to examine the hair to see if there is a tiny ball attached to the end. This would be normal hair shedding. However, if there is no ball on the end it could be breakage.
Breakage is caused by a weakness in the hair shaft.Usually this is from lack of proper care and improper protection.
The everyday practice of drying, styling, curling and straightening the hair is something most all of us do.To keep these tools from damaging the hair, be sure that they are in proper working order and never use extreme high heat.Excessive high heat can dry out and damage hair. There are specific products designed to use with these styling tools.Styling products with special protectants and conditioners help to keep the hair from being damaged are also available.
Chemical treatments such as color, perms, straighteners, and lighteners when used too often or without proper knowledge, can also damage or cause breakage that is unrepairable. There are special shampoos and conditioners that actually prepare and protect your hair for these products.
When it comes to hair care, consult a professional stylist. They will provide you with the proper education on your hair care and styling to keep your hair healthy.
